Invented in Holland in the early 17th century, the weatherglass-a glass barometer-has been popular ever since. Fill partway with water and add the powdered blue pigment included. (Later, you can use food coloring.) Atmospheric pressure makes the colored water rise and fall in the spout. When the level is low, fair skies are ahead. When it’s high or overflows the spout, look out! Hand-blown glass, cast iron holder. Hangs from a nail. Includes syringe for easy filling. Stand is 5 1/2″w x 11″h x 4 3/4″d.
